Project Overview
SuSu is a visual identity and poster design project for a K-pop dance workshop. It was developed as part of Design in Play: From Chaos to Concept, a class in which students explored a shared concept through different creative directions.
While everyone started with the same core concept, I chose K-pop dance as my theme. My goal was to capture its energy, movement, and expressive character through a series of bold and unconventional posters.
The project explores how color, typography, and composition can work together to communicate the personality of a dance workshop.
The Core Concept
Bloom Beyond Balance
Bloom Beyond Balance combines two contrasting ideas: the natural beauty of blooming flowers and the explosive energy of a burst.
Blooming represents growth and self-expression, while the explosion represents movement, energy, and unexpected possibilities. By bringing these ideas together, I explored how a design can move beyond conventional balance and embrace a more expressive and unpredictable style.
This concept became the foundation for the poster series, guiding the way I used graphic elements, typography, and composition to reflect the spirit of K-pop dance.
Name & Tagline
SuSu
SuSu is the name of my K-pop dance workshop concept. I developed the visual direction around the idea of dance as a way to express yourself, explore your individuality, and grow through movement.
Dance. Bloom. Repeat.
The tagline connects three ideas: dancing as self-expression, blooming as personal growth, and repeating as an ongoing cycle of learning and movement.
Together, the name and tagline communicate the creative spirit of the workshop and support the central idea of Bloom Beyond Balance.
Visual Direction
Explosion, Imbalance & Repetition
I translated the core concept into three visual approaches: explosion, imbalance, and repetition. Each approach explores a different way to express movement and energy through graphic design.
Explosion — Creating Energy
Inspired by the idea of an explosion, this direction focuses on visual impact and a sense of outward movement. Bold graphic elements and strong compositions help create an energetic impression.
Imbalance — Breaking Visual Expectations
Instead of relying on symmetrical layouts, this direction explores asymmetry and unexpected placement. The resulting compositions feel less predictable and create a stronger sense of movement.
Repetition — Building Rhythm
Repeated graphic elements and typographic treatments create visual rhythm. Repetition also helps connect the individual posters, making them feel like parts of the same series.
Together, these three approaches form the visual foundation of SuSu, balancing consistency across the series with freedom to experiment in each poster.

Typography & Color
Expressive Visuals with Strong Impact
Typography and color help communicate the energy and personality of the SuSu concept. The use of bold type and contrasting colors gives the posters a strong visual presence, while experimental compositions make the overall direction feel dynamic and expressive.
Rather than treating typography as information alone, the design uses it as part of the visual composition. Its placement and relationship with other graphic elements contribute to the rhythm and movement of the posters.
These visual choices support the central concept by creating compositions that feel energetic, unconventional, and connected to the expressive nature of K-pop dance.

Poster Series
One Concept, Multiple Visual Expressions
The poster series brings Bloom Beyond Balance to life through the three visual approaches: explosion, imbalance, and repetition.
Each poster explores the concept through its own composition and arrangement of visual elements. Although the layouts differ, the posters share a common creative direction, connecting them as one series for the SuSu K-pop dance workshop.
The final series demonstrates how a single concept can be interpreted in different ways while maintaining a recognizable visual identity.

Bringing the Identity to Life
To extend the SuSu visual identity beyond static posters, I created a motion piece using the same visual elements and design language. Through movement, typography, and composition, the video brings the energy of Bloom Beyond Balance to life while maintaining consistency across the poster series.
Key Learnings
This project taught me how to translate an abstract concept into a clear visual direction. By exploring explosion, imbalance, and repetition, I learned how composition, typography, and graphic elements can communicate movement and energy without relying on words alone.
I also learned that consistency does not require every design to look the same. A series can maintain a shared visual identity while allowing each poster to express the concept differently.
Most importantly, the project helped me understand how creative constraints can become opportunities for experimentation and how a shared starting point can lead to distinct visual outcomes.
